25 Effective Home Remedies For Skin Tag Removal

Skin tags, medically known as acrochorda, are small, soft skin growth that is typically harmless. They are usually painless and benign. They also do not grow or change. They are often considered as a cosmetic problem rather than a medical one.

Skin tags can be found almost anywhere on the body. However, they are often found around the armpit, neck, trunk, and body folds.

The cause of skin tags is not known. However, a major contributing factor is when skin rubs against skin. Furthermore, skin tags are more prevalent in people who are overweight and people with diabetes. Other contributory factors to skin tags are; pregnancy, hormonal changes, and human papillomavirus.

Most skin tags tend to be the same color as one’s skin or a little darker.

Common conventional ways to remove skin tags include; freezing it (cryotherapy), burning it off (cauterization), surgical removal, or cutting it off with a string.

Below are natural treatments and home remedies for skin tag removal;

1. Tea Tree Oil


Tea tree oil is a potent cure for skin tags because it is organic, effective, easy to apply and safe to use at home. Apothecary and bael wellness tea tree oils are the best options because they are antimicrobial and antiseptic at the same time. Tea tree oil gradually dries the skin tags by depriving the cells of oxygenated blood.

For this remedy, you would have to mix three drops of tea tree oil, four drops of raw apple cider vinegar and five drops of lemon juice. Then use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to the affected skin area. Cover the area with a Band-Aid and leave it to soak until the next application is due. Repeat this procedure three times a day for up to six weeks until the skin tag is removed completely.

2. Castor Oil


Castor oil comes from Castor beans and it contains phytochemicals that make it effective in the removal of skin tags. Castor oil works by drying your skin as you constantly apply it. The skin tag tissue will eventually become brittle and fall away on its own accord. You can mix Castor oil with baking soda in equal amount to form a past and apply it to your skin tags. Repeat this process twice, or more times, a day for at least ten days until the skin tag disappears.

3. Onion Juice


Onion juice has acidic properties and makes it suitable for getting rid of skin tags. Onion is able to break down those skin cells that have caused the skin tag. Prepare one onion by cutting it into pieces. Then, mix the cut onion with half a teaspoon of salt. Put it in a closed container and leave it there overnight.

In the morning, extract the juice from the salted onion and set it aside until night. Before bedtime, apply the onion juice on the skin tag and cover it with a bandage. Wash the affected area, using warm water, in the morning. Do this on daily basis for a week until the skin tag vanishes.

4. Banana Peel


Banana peels have antioxidant properties and natural enzymes that can dissolve these skin tags naturally. For this remedy, cut a small portion of the banana peel and place the inside part, of the banana, over the skin tag and let it stay there using a bandage.  In the morning, remove the peel and wash the affected area using warm water. For effective results, repeat the process daily until the skin tags go away.

5. Garlic


Fresh garlic contains enzymes that can help shrink skin tags effectively. For this remedy, crush a few garlic cloves to form a paste and apply it directly to the affected area of your skin and eventually cover with a bandage. You need to, first of all, cleanse the affected area, then, extract the oil from the vitamin E capsule. 8. Lemon Juice


This is a very successful method of getting rid of skin tags in a natural way. Lemon juice is a very reliable source of citric acid and the juice is also an astringent hence it helps break down the cells within the skin tag and erodes the decomposing tissue.

Cut a lemon in half and squeeze out the juice. Dip a cotton swab in the lemon juice and apply it directly on the skin tag. Leave it for about two hours then rinse off with warm water. Repeat this remedy three times a day for two weeks to eliminate the skin tag. You should strive not expose your skin to direct sunlight since it may enhance sunburns.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar


Apple cider vinegar contains alpha-hydroxy acid that works effectively in removing dead skin tissues. For this remedy, soak a cotton swab in apple cider vinegar and apply it over the skin tag. Leave it on your skin for three or four hours before rinsing it off using warm water.

For this remedy, mix two drops of oregano oil and four drops of coconut oil together. Then, apply the mixture directly on the skin tag and allow it to dry. Rinse off with warm water. Repeat this process thrice a day for about four weeks for substantial results.

11. Fenugreek Seeds


Fenugreek seeds contain powerful antioxidants that remove dead skin cells and dry out the skin tags, making it a useful home remedy for skin tag removal. For this remedy, steep two or three teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in a glass of warm water overnight. First thing in the morning, strain the water and wash the affected area with this water frequently until all the skin tags fade away.

12. Baking Soda


Baking soda works by balancing your skin pH and exfoliating dead skin cells. Mix warm water, vinegar, and baking soda to make a thick paste. Then, gently apply it, in circular motions, over the skin tag and allow it to dry. Wait for about ten minutes before rinsing it off so as to increase the mixture’s efficacy. It is advisable to repeat this method twice a day for about two weeks to get effective results.

13. Pineapple Juice


Pineapple juice has citric acids which break down the skin tags fast and efficiently. Cut a pineapple and crush a few pieces of it to extract the juice. Use a cotton ball to apply the juice on the skin tag and leave it to dry off but don’t wash it off. Repeat this two times a day for ten days and watch the skin tag fall off.

14. Ginger


Ginger contains over 40 antioxidant properties that make it effective in getting rid of skin tags. For this remedy, clean the skin tag and the area around it. You can use ginger powder, honey and fresh lemon juice on your skin and leave it for about 30 minutes before washing your face. Do this at least five times a day for about two weeks.

Potatoes have the capability to dry out skin tags and make them fade away from the skin within a short period of time. When mashed potatoes are used together with garlic cloves and cauliflower pieces, in a paste form, this potato becomes very effective. Apply this paste mixture on your skin every night before you sleep and wash your face with warm water when you wake up in the morning. You can use a bandage to keep the paste intact.

16. Bloodroot Paste


Bloodroot has the capacity to cut off blood supply to the skin tag and this makes the skin tag dry out. Mix bloodroot powder with water to form a paste. Apply some of this paste on the skin tag and cover using a bandage.  Leave it on for about two hours then use warm water to rinse it off. Do this until the skin tag fades away.

17. Cauliflower Juice


If you are looking for a natural way of getting rid of your skin tags, cauliflower juice is a potent option. Cauliflower juice’s working mechanism is that it dries up the skin tag tissues and sheds them off. It also soothes the skin keeping it smooth and fresh.

For this remedy, blend one small potato, two garlic cloves and a few small pieces of cauliflower to create a smooth paste. Apply the paste on the skin tag every night before you sleep and cover the place with a bandage. Uncover it in the morning and wash the area using warm water. 18. Fig Stem Juice


Numerous people are turning to natural ways of getting rid of skin tags using fig stem juice as an alternative to using a doctor or a dermatologist. Fig stem juice is naturally acidic and hence it is highly effective in removing skin tags by degenerating the skin tag tissues.

Fig stem juice is also vital in keeping an alkaline-acid balance of the skin which prevents the development of skin tags. Extract fig tree juice by crushing a few fig stems. Apply the juice directly on the skin tag. Do this three to four times a day for two to four weeks or until the skin tag is removed.

19. Black Walnut


Black walnut is an effective natural remedy for skin tag removal. Pick 5-10 walnuts with green husks. Put on gloves and remove the husks. Put the green husks in a saucepan and add water to them. Heat them to boiling point. Put out the flame and cover the pan with a tight lid and leave it for 24 hours before straining and storing resultant tea in a bottle. Apply this tea to the skin tags two to three times daily until they fall off.

20. Dandelion Stem Juice


Dandelion stem juice has the ability to detoxify the skin and hence leave the skin pores open and clear, thus, preventing the formation of dead cells. Dandelion stem juice is also rich in vitamins and minerals that break down and remove excess tissue, this makes it efficient in removing skin tags. Pick a few dandelions and squeeze the stem to extract the juice from it. Apply this juice on the skin tag and let it dry. Reapply three to four times a day for effective results.

21. Nail Polish


Nail polish is a great way to get rid of skin tags as it cuts down the supply of moisture in the skin. It should be avoided if you have an infected skin tag or if the skin tag is in a very sensitive part of the body like close to your eyes.

The first step is to clean the area with antibacterial soap to uncover the skin tag surface. Then, simply paint the skin tag with nail polish, carefully avoiding spreading it to the surrounding surface, and let it dry. You can apply another coat of the nail polish before going to sleep and remove it the following morning using the nail polish remover.  Repeat this treatment at least thrice in a day for several days until you see the skin tag coming off.

22. Duct Tape


Many people are turning to duct tape as a home remedy for skin tags. Duct tape can help remove a skin tag easily by depriving it air and blood flow. Put a duct tape on your skin tag and ensure no air can get in. You can leave it until it loosens and then slowly remove it and check if the skin tag is attached to the duct tape. The tape usually loosens in 5 to 8 days.

23. Aspirin


You should consider using this method on a clean skin. Aspirin contains acetylsalicylic acid that shrinks and dries out the skin tag and makes them gradually dissipate. Dissolve crushed aspirin in a small amount of water and apply the solution on the skin tag. You can repeat this method severally in a day until the skin tag drops off.

24. Epsom Salt


Epsom salt has detoxifying properties that help to flush toxins out of the body. It also balances the pH of the skin and exfoliates it, giving the skin a radiant touch. This makes Epsom salt an effective remedy for skin tag removal as it dries out the skin tag making them fall off.

For this remedy, you would need 1 cup of Epsom salt, water, and a bathtub. You prepare a warm bath and add the cup of Epsom salt in it and soak in this water for up to 30 minutes. You can also add a teaspoon of Epsom salt in a cup of water and use a cotton ball to apply it in the skin tag. Do this twice a day until the skin tag fades away.

25. Witch Hazel


Witch hazel can be used as a natural home remedy that can help remove skin tags. It has healing properties and balances the skin’s pH. You would have to purchase the witch hazel pads or a witch hazel extract. Apply witch hazel extract on the skin tag and leave it to dry. Repeat this procedure three to four times a day until the skin tags vanish.
