Age spots, also known as liver spots, brown spots, dark spots, or sun spots, tend to occur due to an increase in the production of melanocyte cells that increase melanin in our skin. Thus, making our skin darker.

These spots are characterized by being flat, oval, tan or brown/black marks.

The increase in melanin production tends to happen when our skin is overly exposed to the sun’s UV rays.

Age spots tend to appear mostly on the face, shoulders, neck, back, hands, and chest.

The main causes of age spots include; genetics, exposure to sun, and aging.

Factors that could increase the likelihood of having these spots include; pregnancy, stress, deficiency in vitamins, and a weak functioning liver.

Here are some tips and good practices, to consider, in order to prevent aging spots;

  • Strive to limit your exposure to the sun.
  • Use sunscreen lotions to protect your skin from the  UV rays of the sun.
  • Once in a while, you should take a break under a shade in order to limit your exposure to the sun.
