Here are tips and good practices, to consider, when dealing with cracked heels;

  • Endeavor to moisturize your feet often.
  • Avoid taking excessively long, hot showers. Hot showers tend to dry the skin.
  • Avoid using harsh, chemical-laden soaps. Opt for herbal or moisturizing soap instead.
  • You could gently exfoliate the affected area with pumice stone. However, avoid scrubbing too rigorously.
  • Opt for cotton socks as they absorb moisture and allow the skin to breathe.

Below are 14 natural home remedies for cracked Heels;

Vegetable Oil


Olive oil, sesame oil or any other hydrogenated oil would be suitable as a home remedy for cracked feet. First wash your feet with soap and water. Then, apply the vegetable oil. This should be done preferably just before you sleep.

Paraffin Wax


Paraffin wax can be use as an emollient if the crack is deep or severely dried and painful. Dip feet in already melted and cooled paraffin wax. Cover feet with nylon or plastic material for about 40 minutes. Remove plastic and peel of the wax from the feet.

Baking Soda


Baking soda is an exfoliant and has anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it a good home remedy for cracked heels. Soak feet in a solution of water and baking soda for about 15 minutes.

Pumice Stone


Pumice stone is good to scrub off the dead cell skin surrounding the cracked heel. However, do not scrub to harshly as this could exacerbate the skin around that area.

Aloe Vera


Aloe vera is a potent healing herb that bolsters collagen development. Wash cracked feet and apply aloe vera gel, preferably, overnight.

Shea Butter


Shea butter is a potent skin moisturizer and skin healer. It also nourishes the skin due to its high vitamin A and E content. Wash cracked heels. Then apply shea butter, preferably, overnight.

Oatmeal


Oatmeal has moisturizing properties that help soften and remove dried heel skin. Apply a pasty mixture of oatmeal and olive oil to cracked heel. Leave for about 20 minutes and rinse off.

Rosewater and Glycerin Mixture


Glycerin softens the skin while rosewater, which is rich in vitamins, acts as antioxidant and antiseptic. Mix equal amounts of rosewater and glycerin, then apply to the cracked heel preferably before bedtime.

Ripe Bananas


Ripe bananas are excellent for dried cracked heels because of their high moisturizing nature. Mash banana into paste. Apply to cracked heel. Leave for about 20 minutes before washing off.

Petroleum Jelly


Petroleum jelly helps soften and moisturize the cracked feet. Apply petroleum jelly after washing and scrubbing cracked heel.

Lemon


Soak the cracked feet in water in which lemon juice has been added for about 15 minutes. Scrub the soften heel with pumice stone. Wash feet thereafter. Lemon’s acidic properties is good for softening the cracked heel.

Indian Lilac and Turmeric Mixture


Indian lilac, also known as neem, has anti-fungal properties that soothes dry cracked heels and kills fungal infections. Make a pasty mixture of lilac leaves and one tablespoon of turmeric. Apply paste mixture to cracked heel. Wash off after about 20 minutes.

Honey


Put about half a cup of honey in a small tub or bucket half-filled with water. Soak feet in water for about 20 minutes. Scrub feet gently. Honey is excellent for cracked heels because of its moisturizing and antibacterial properties.

Epsom Salt


Epsom salts soothes the cracked feet and softens it. Soak cracked feet in a mixture of Epsom salt and water for 20 minutes. Moisturizer feet thereafter.
